The special tribute issue of the Journal of Asian Civilizations, Volume XXXI, Numbers 1 and 2 (July and December 2008), Masters of Understanding: German Scholars in the Hindu Kush and Karakoram, 1955--2005, can be ordered from the secretariat of the Taxila Institute or your local bookseller. Volume XXXII, Number 1 (July 2009) of the Journal of Asian Civilizations, "Papers on Gandhara and the Archaeology of the Early Muslim Period" has now been published and can be ordered from the secretariat of the Taxila Institute or from your bookseller (ISSN:1993-4696). On 13th October Prof. van Skyhawk lectured on the historical development of the legends surrounding the Yeti (Abominable Snowman) for the Asian Study Group, Islamabad. On 15th October Prof. van Skyhawk travelled to Kathmandu, Nepal, on the invitation of the Tribhuvan University to hold guest lectures on inter-religious dialogue. On 2nd December Prof. van Skyhawk travelled to Berlin to lecture in the German Parliament (Bundestag) on madrassa reform and the radicalisation of the Deobandi madrassas in Pakistan. On 4th December Prof. van Skyhawk consulted with officials of the German Federal Foreign Office concerning the building of the new Taxila Institute. Prof. van Skyhawk lectured on the historical development of the conflict in Waziristan and the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) at the German-American Institute in Heidelberg, Germany, on 12th January. On 20th January van Skyhawk gave a guest lecture in the Faculty of Lutheran Theology of the University of Mainz, Germany, on the present state of inter-religious dialogue in Pakistan. On 21st January van Skyhawk travelled to Munich, Germany, and held a lecture on the historical development of the religious communities of present-day Pakistan. On 9 March Prof. van Skyhawk will be Special Guest at the International Conference on Islam and Inter-Faith Harmony convened by the Tehrik-e-Akhuwat-e-Islami & Inter-Faith Dialogue Committee on the occasion of the Eid Milad-un-Nabi, the Birth Anniversary of the Holy Prophet (Peace be upon Him!).On 6th April van Skyhawk will travel to the University of Kent (UK) to lecture on the concept of protection in the Muslim state in South Asia. On 30 April van Skyhawk will lecture to the German-British Society at Heidelberg and Frankfurt on present-day British-Pakistan relations. The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has approved 30 million rupees for the construction of a new institutional home for the Taxila Institute. An application for financial aid to meet the costs of constructing and furnishing the new institute has been received favourably by the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany. Mr. Imran Sadiq, who had served the Taxila Institute for 20 years as stenographer/secretary has accepted a post in the Registrar's Office of the Quaid-i-Azam University.
